Jointly supervised thesis

Joint supervision allows doctoral students to prepare their thesis partly at ENIM and partly at a foreign higher education institution. It encourages the mobility of doctoral students and the development of lasting scientific collaborations between research teams.

Principles

01

Joint supervision is based on an agreement signed by both institutions.

02

The doctoral student is registered at both institutions; registration fees are shared as set out in the agreement.

03

The student is supervised by two thesis supervisors, one at each institution, who carry out their role jointly.

04

The student alternates stays at both institutions, according to a schedule set by the agreement.

05

The thesis leads to a single defence before a jury made up of members of both institutions.

06

The doctoral student receives a doctoral degree from each of the two institutions.

Content of the agreement

The agreement sets out in particular:

  • the identity of the doctoral student and the thesis topic;
  • registration and fee payment arrangements;
  • social security cover;
  • the thesis supervisors;
  • the schedule of stays;
  • the composition of the jury and the place and language of the defence;
  • arrangements for submitting the thesis and awarding the degrees;
  • intellectual property and confidentiality;
  • the settlement of disputes.

Procedure

  1. Project The joint supervision project is prepared by the two thesis supervisors.
  2. Review The agreement is submitted to the Doctoral School for review by the committee concerned.
  3. Signature and registration Once approved, the agreement is signed by the heads of both institutions, then the doctoral student registers.
